Refrigerator Run Capacitor briefly increases the voltage to the motor to help the motor start. If the compressor of your appliance won't start or clicks, replacing this part may alleviate these issues. This part is designed to be used with select kitchen appliances, including refrigerators, freezers and ice machines. Check to see if your model is compatible. Replacing this part will require basic hand tools, some disassembly of the appliance and novice repair experience. 1. Unplug the refrigerator from the power source before getting started.
2. Locate the run capacitor, which should be connected to the compressor and fan motor, located at the back of the refrigerator or inside the chassis.
3. If you cannot easily locate the capacitor, refer to your owner's manual or search online for a diagram of the manufacturer's model that you are working with.
4. Using a screwdriver, remove the mounting screws that secure the capacitor to the fan motor.
5. Carefully disconnect the wires from the run capacitor. Make sure to note the configuration of the old capacitor so you can match it to the new one.
6. Remove the old capacitor and discard it responsibly.
7. Take the new replacement capacitor and connect the wires in the same configuration as the old one.
8. Reattach the capacitor to the fan motor and secure it with the mounting screws.
9. Plug the refrigerator back into the power source, switch the power on, and check that the unit is functioning properly.
10. Finally, make sure to store any extra parts, tools, and the old capacitor in a safe place.
