How to Replace the 285753A Whirlpool Washer Direct Drive Motor Coupling

If your Whirlpool washer isn't agitating or spinning properly, it's possible that you may need to replace the direct drive motor coupling, also known as part number 285753A. Follow these easy DIY instructions to replace the motor coupling in your Whirlpool washer.

Tools and Materials Needed:
• Phillips head screwdriver
• Flat head screwdriver
• Pliers
• New motor coupling (285753A)

Step 1: Unplug Your Washer
Before you start working on your washer, make sure that it is unplugged and that it won't accidentally turn on while you're repairing it.

Step 2: Remove the Rear Access Panel
Remove the screws from the rear access panel and set them aside. The panel should be easy to remove.

Step 3: Disconnect the Wires
Carefully disconnect the two electrical wires connected to the motor casing. Set the wires aside so that they won't get in the way when you're working on the motor coupling.

Step 4: Remove Motor Coupling
Using your flat-head screwdriver, gently pry the old motor coupling off of the washer's drive shaft. The drive shaft may be tight, so you may need to use a pair of pliers to loosen it.

Step 5: Install New Motor Coupling
Once the old motor coupling has been removed, use your Phillips head screwdriver to install the new motor coupling (part number 285753A). Make sure that it is firmly secured onto the drive shaft before continuing.

Step 6: Reconnect the Wires
Once the new motor coupling has been installed, reconnect the two electrical wires to the motor casing. Make sure that they are securely connected and that no wires are exposed.

Once all of the necessary repairs have been made, reattach the rear access panel and secure it in place with the screws.

And that's it! You've successfully replaced the 285753A Whirlpool Washer Direct Drive Motor Coupling. Now you can confidently turn on your washer and enjoy its smooth operation.
