W10820043 Whirlpool Washer Basket Drive and Brake Assembly
This Top Load Washer Basket Drive Assembly sits on top of the transmission shaft and houses the spin basket brake mechanism. The basket drive spins to rotate the basket during the spin cycle. We strongly recommend that you hire a qualified technician to safely install this part. Replacing this part will require advanced mechanical training. Specialized tools, complex testing and appliance calibration may be required. 1. Before replacing the W10820043 Whirlpool Washer Basket Drive and Brake Assembly, unplug the power cord from the wall outlet and turn off the water supply to the machine.
2. Remove the washer's access panel. If necessary, use a screwdriver to remove the screws to gain access to the basket drive and brake assembly.
3. Disconnect the wires connected to the motor and release the motor clamps. Lift the motor out of the washer and set it aside.
4. Disconnect the water hoses from the basket drive and brake assembly by using pliers to loosen the hose clamps.
5. Using a screwdriver, unscrew the three screws that attach the basket drive and brake assembly to the tub.
6. Carefully pull out the old basket drive and brake assembly.
7. Slide in the new W10820043 Whirlpool Washer Basket Drive and Brake Assembly and secure it with the three screws.
8. Re-attach the hoses to the new basket drive and brake assembly and tighten the hose clamps with the pliers.
9. Place the motor back into the washer and secure the motor clamps. Reconnect the wires to the motor.
10. Replace the access panel and secure the screws.
11. Turn on the water supply to the washer and plug in the power cord to the wall outlet.
