Replacing a Washer Lid Switch on a Whirlpool WP487576
1. Unplug the washer from the power outlet and shut off the water supply to the washer. Remove the two screws on the rear of the washer cabinet and pull off the back panel.
2. Locate the lid switch on the left side of the washer's cabinet near the control panel. The switch is connected to two wires which plug into the body of the switch.
3. Disconnect the two wires connected to the lid switch. Unhook the clips holding the lid switch in place. Remove the lid switch by pulling it out of its housing on the cabinet.
4. Get a new lid switch, such as a Whirlpool part number 487576, to replace the old one.
5. Insert the new switch into the same slot where the old one sat. Secure it with the clips that held the old switch in place.
6. Reconnect the two wires to the switch, making sure that they are firmly attached.
7. Replace the back panel of the washer and secure it with the two screws. Plug the washer back into the power outlet and turn on the water supply.
8. Test the washer by closing the lid and allowing it to go through a cycle. The cycle should stop when the lid is opened. If the cycle continues, you may need to check that the switch is securely connected to the wires and/or replace it with a new lid switch.
