Step 1: Gather the Tools You Need.

To replace the W10156812 Whirlpool Interlock Spring, you will need a Phillips screwdriver, a flathead screwdriver, and a pair of needle-nose pliers.

Step 2: Unscrew the Top Panel.

Locate the screws on the top of your appliance. Using the Phillips screwdriver, gently unscrew these screws and set them aside in a safe place.

Step 3: Pivot the Top Panel Outward.

Once the screws have been removed, you can gently pivot the top panel of the appliance outward away from the rest of the body.

Step 4: Disconnect the Electrical Connectors.

Using your flathead screwdriver, carefully disconnect any electrical connectors between the two panels.

Step 5: Locate the Spring.

Once the top panel has been removed, locate the spring located near the back of the appliance. This is the W10156812.

Step 6: Unhook the Spring.

Using the needle-nose pliers, carefully unhook the old spring from its mounting point.

Step 7: Insert the New Spring.

Take the new spring and insert it into the same mounting point the old one was in.

Step 8: Reattach the Electrical Connectors.

Now that the new spring is in place, use the flathead screwdriver to reconnect the electrical connectors between the two panels.

Step 9: Reattach the Top Panel.

Gently put the top panel back in place, and use the Phillips screwdriver to reattach the screws.

Step 10: Test the Appliance.

Turn the appliance on and test it to make sure the new interlock spring is working properly.
