74007498 Whirlpool Range Flat Ignitor
This Gas Oven Vertical Igniter Kit is also referred to as a glow bar. You may need this part if the element itself shorted out, or if the igniter of your oven glows for more than 90 seconds without lighting the gas flame – this may indicate that the igniter is too weak to properly open the valve to allow the gas to feed through. The igniter must glow white hot to properly light the oven; if it glows red or orange replacing it may alleviate these issues. To access the part, pull the oven door off its hinges to remove it, and remove the racks from the oven. The remove the screws holding the bottom panel of the oven in. Replacing this part will require basic hand tools, some disassembly of the appliance and novice repair experience. You must unplug the appliance or shut off the house circuit breaker before installing this part. Also turn off the gas supply that's connected to your oven.

1. Before starting the repair, unplug the range from the wall outlet or flip the circuit breaker off to prevent an electric shock.
2. Locate the 74007498 Whirlpool Range Flat Ignitor at the back of the range.
3. Unscrew the screws securing the ignitor in place and remove it, along with any wires attached.
4. Disconnect all wires from the existing ignitor and attach them to the new ignitor. Re-attach all clips and springs if present.
5. Insert the new ignitor into place and secure it using the screws you removed initially.
6. Reconnect the range to the wall outlet and turn the power back on.
7. Test the ignitor by turning on the oven and check the flame on the burner.
8. If the spark is weak or the flame does not ignite, check the connections for any loose connections and check that the wires are firmly connected to the ignitor.
