DIY Instructions for Replacing a WP3979346 Whirlpool Water Inlet Valve

Replacing your Whirlpool water inlet valve (WP3979346) isn’t difficult, and it can save you money by avoiding a costly service call. Follow these steps to get the job done:

1. Gather Your Tools and Materials – Before you start, make sure you have all the necessary tools and materials on hand. You’ll need a Phillips screwdriver, pliers, duct tape, wire cutters, and an exact replacement valve for your washer.

2. Shut Off the Water Supply – Unscrew the two screws holding the face plate on the wall, then shut off the water supply to the washer. You may need to shut off the main water valve if no individual one is available.

3. Disconnect the Hoses – Carefully disconnect each of the hoses attached to the existing water inlet valve. Make sure you label each hose so that you can reconnect them to the right one.

4. Remove Old Inlet Valve – Detach the mounting bracket from the wall using your Phillips screwdriver. Once it’s loose, pull the valve out and discard it.

5. Install New Inlet Valve – Position the new valve in the same place as the old one, then reattach the mounting bracket. Connect the water supply lines, making sure that they are tightened securely.

6. Test New Valve – Turn the water supply back on and check for any leaks. If there are none, test the new valve by running the washer. Once everything is working properly, you’re good to go!

Changing a Whirlpool water inlet valve (WP3979346) doesn’t have to be a hassle. With the right tools, following these instructions will get you back to doing laundry in no time.
