WP53-0771 Whirlpool High Limit Thermostat
The Dryer High Limit Thermostat shuts off the heating element or burner when the dryer overheats (L248-80F). The only difference between the high limit thermostat and the operating thermostat is their opening and closing temperatures. If your dryer won’t heat, replacing this part may alleviate the issue. Note that the thermistor should read around 50 to 60Kohms at room temperature.Replacing this part will require basic hand tools, some disassembly of the dryer and novice repair experience. You must unplug the appliance or shut off the house circuit breaker for the appliance before installing this part.

Replacing the Whirlpool WP53-0771 THRMST-FIX
1. Unplug the appliance from the electrical outlet.
2. Remove the thermostat cover from the back side of the appliance.
3. Detach the wires from the defective thermostat and make a note of how they were connected.
4. Carefully remove the defective thermostat.
5. Put the new thermostat in place, making sure it is firmly secured to the appliance.
6. Reattach the wires to the correct positions using the note you made earlier.
7. Put the thermostat cover back on and plug the appliance into the electrical outlet.
8. Test the thermostat to make sure it is working properly.
