WP9758079 Whirlpool Oven Igniter
This Gas Range Igniter ignites the gas for the oven burner. It's wired in series with the safety gas valve for the oven. The safety gas valve won't open unless it detects that the igniter is hot enough to light the burner gas. If your range won't turn on, there's little to no heat when baking, or the igniter glows and won't light, replacing it may alleviate these issues. When installing the part, make sure not to touch the new carbide electrode - oil from your fingers may damage the part. Installing this part will require specialized tools, complicated disassembly of the oven and prior repair experience. We strongly recommend that you hire a qualified technician to safely install this part. Replacing this part will require advanced mechanical training. Step 1: Unplug the Range from the wall.
Step 2: Remove the screws from the rear panel of the oven to access the igniter.
Step 3: Carefully remove the old igniter from the connector and take note of the wiring configuration.
Step 4: Place the new Whirlpool WP9758079 ignitor into the connector. Make sure it is securely attached.
Step 5: Secure the new ignitor with the screws removed in Step 2.
Step 6: Plug in the range and turn on the oven to make sure the new ignitor is working properly. If not, check the wiring configuration.
Step 7: Clean any grease or grime off of the exterior of the oven after replacing the new part.
Step 8: Put the rear panel back on and secure the screws.
