Step 1: Shut off all power to the washing machine. Unplug the washer from the wall outlet.
Step 2: Locate the two wires, one black and one white, connected to the dual lid switch assembly. The wires are usually found at the bottom right hand corner of the washer cabinet.
Step 3: Disconnect the two wires from the dual lid switch assembly by squeezing the latch on either side of the connector and sliding it out of the assembly. Be sure to note the color of each wire for re-connection later.
Step 4: Pull the switch assembly from the front of the washer and remove the mounting screws from the back of the switch.
Step 5: Install the new Speed Queen 204696 KIT Dual Lid Switch by aligning the mounting holes with those on the rear of the washer cabinet. Secure the switch in place with the mounting screws.
Step 6: Reconnect the two wires to the new dual lid switch assembly. Make sure that the black wire connects to the terminal marked “B” and the white wire connects to the terminal marked “W”.
Step 7: Plug the washer into the wall outlet and turn the power back on. Test the washer to make sure that the new switch is working properly.
