WP8557403 Whirlpool Thermostat
The Dryer High-Limit Thermostat and Inlet Thermistor shuts off the heating element or burner when the dryer overheats (L295-80F). The only difference between the high limit thermostat and the operating thermostat is their opening and closing temperatures. If your dryer won’t heat, this part might be defective and should be replaced. Thermistor should read around 50 to 60Kohms at room temperature. Installing this part will require basic hand tools, some disassembly of the dryer and novice repair experience. You must unplug the dryer or shut off the house circuit breaker for the appliance before installing this part. Helpful Tip: This a replacement part may look different than the original thermostat in your appliance, but will still install and operate the same.

Replacing the Whirlpool WP8557403 THRMST-FIX
1. First of all, shut off power to your Whirlpool appliance by unplugging it from the wall socket or turning off the circuit breaker.
2. Open the appliance door and locate the thermostat. It will be behind the control panel near the back, and likely mounted in place with two screws.
3. Using a Phillips head screwdriver, remove the two screws securing the thermostat in place.
4. Carefully pull out the defective thermostat and disconnect the wires on both ends.
5. Take your new Whirlpool WP8557403 THRMST-FIX and place it in the same position that the old one was in.
6. Reconnect the wires and secure the thermostat in place with the two screws.
7. Final step is to test the thermostat for proper operation.
8. If you found that the thermostat is functioning properly, replace the appliance cover and restore power to the appliance.
