The Front Load Dryer Heating Element Kit generates heat in the appliance during the drying cycle. If your dryer isn’t heating properly, replacing this part may alleviate the issue. In order to access the part, you'll remove the back panel from the dryer. Installing the element kit will require basic hand tools, some disassembly of the dryer and novice repair experience. DIY Guide to Replacing a Whirlpool Dryer Heating Element (Part W10864898)
Replacing a damaged dryer heating element is a relatively easy repair that can be done yourself. To complete this repair, you will need the following tools and materials:
-New heating element (Whirlpool Part Number W10864898)
-Screwdriver
-Long nose pliers
Step 1: Unplug the dryer from the wall outlet and turn off the gas supply if your dryer runs on gas.
Step 2: Remove the rear access panel. On most Whirlpool dryers, you will need to remove two screws at the top of the panel. Lift the panel off and set aside.
Step 3: Locate the heating element at the bottom of the dryer on the back wall.
Step 4: Disconnect the wires leading to the heating element using a screwdriver or a pair of long nose pliers.
Step 5: Remove the screws holding the heating element in place and pull it out of the dryer.
Step 6: Place the new heating element into the dryer and secure it in place with the screws.
Step 7: Reconnect the wires to the new heating element. Make sure they are firmly attached.
Step 8: Replace the rear access panel and secure it in place with the screws.
Step 9: Plug the dryer back in and turn on the gas supply if your dryer runs on gas.
Your Whirlpool dryer heating element has now been replaced.
