Step 1: Disconnect and Unplug the Washer – Before you start your repair of the Whirlpool washer shift actuator, you must disconnect and unplug the washer from any power sources. Also, check for any additional power sources such as a gas line that needs to be disconnected before beginning the repair.

Step 2: Access the Actuator – You must then access the actuator that needs to be replaced. First, remove the top cover to gain access to the screws on the back of the washer that secure the rear panel. Remove the screws and the panel. From there you will be able to see the actuator.

Step 3: Remove the Actuator – With the rear panel out of the way, remove the electrical connector and the motor mount screws to free the motor. At this point, you should be able to slide the actuator out of its mounting space.

Step 4: Install the New Actuator– With the old actuator slid out, insert the new actuator into the same area and reattach the motor mount screws. Then, re-connect the electrical connector.

Step 5: Cleanup and Test – Once you have finished replacing the actuator, check to make sure you have everything connected properly and no parts are left in the washing machine. Attach the rear panel, secure it with the screws, and put the top cover back on. Reconnect the washer to the power source and test it to make sure the new actuator is working correctly.

Please keep in mind, these instructions are for general guidance and should always be used in conjunction with the manufacturer's manual, if available.
