The Refrigerator Start Device Relay is mounted to the side of the compressor on the back of the refrigerator and causes the compressor to start when refrigeration is needed. If your refrigerator isn’t cooling and you hear clicking or buzzing sounds coming from the compressor area, replacing this part may alleviate the issue. DIY Instruction for Replacing a WPW10448874 Whirlpool Refrigerator Compressor Start Relay Device
1. Before beginning the replacement process, unplug the refrigerator from the wall outlet or turn off the circuit breaker that supplies power to it.
2. Slide out the refrigerator and lay it on its back so you can access the compressor's bottom side. Make sure you have enough room to work, and be careful when sliding it out to avoid damaging it.
3. Locate the old start relay device and remove it by disconnecting the two wire harness and then unscrewing the mounting screws that hold it in place.
4. Purchase and install the new WPW10448874 Whirlpool Refrigerator Compressor Start Relay Device, following the printed instructions included with the part.
5. Reconnect the two wire harnesses and securely attach the new start relay device with the mounting screws.
6. Flip the refrigerator back up, plug it in, and turn the circuit breaker back on.
7. Test the replacement part by turning the refrigerator on and allowing it to cool to the desired temperature.
