The Top Load Washer Timer controls the appliance’s wash cycle operations, including filling, soaking, washing, spinning and rinsing. If your washer is no longer progressing properly through each cycle, replacing this part may alleviate the issue. Use a flat-blade screwdriver to press the tabs to release the wiring harnesses from the broken timer. Replacing this part will require basic hand tools, some disassembly of the appliance and novice repair experience. Replacing the Whirlpool WP8577356 Timer
1. Unplug the appliance or shut off the power to the unit at the breaker box.
2. Remove the front control panel or access panel. Refer to the installation instructions for your specific model for the placement of the access panel or check the manufacturer’s website.
3. Locate and remove the timer. It is typically found on the back of the appliance near the controls.
4. Remove the timer knob from the front of the timer. Lift the knob up and off the timer shaft, using a flat-head screwdriver to pry it off if necessary.
5. Remove the screws holding the timer in place. Depending on the model, you may need to use a screwdriver or nut driver.
6. Pull the old timer out of the appliance by hand.
7. Insert the new timer into the appliance and secure it with the screws you removed from the old timer.
8. Reinstall the timer knob and reassemble the access panel.
