WPW10392132 Whirlpool Refrigerator Bi-Metal Defrost Thermostat
This Refrigerator Defrost Thermostat is a safety device that clips onto the evaporator in the freezer. This part turns off the defrost heater in case it gets too warm in the freezer section to prevent the evaporator from overheating. If your refrigerator does not defrost, both the thermostat and heater can be tested to determine which part is at fault. Note that the defrost thermostat is located inside the control panel of the fresh food section. Replacing the thermostat will require basic hand tools, some disassembly of the refrigerator and novice repair experience. You must unplug the appliance or shut off the house circuit breaker for the appliance before installing this part.
