WPW10178988 Whirlpool Rotor Position Sensor
This Top Load Washer Rotor Position Sensor communicates the position of the tub’s rotor to the control board during the washing cycle. If the appliance's motor isn’t working properly to spin the wash tub, or your washer displays an error message, replacing the rotor position sensor may alleviate these issues. To access the part, tilt the washer back letting it rest on something to support it and tape the lid down. You'll need to remove the rotor and rotor stator at the bottom of the machine. The sensor is attached to the top of the stator. Replacing this part will require basic hand tools, some disassembly of the appliance and novice repair experience. You must unplug the appliance or shut off the house circuit breaker before installing this part. Also make sure you turn off the hot and cold water supplies. Helpful Tip: We also recommend using affresh® Washing Machine Cleaner Tablets* (item W10135699) once a month to help reduce odor-causing residue that can build up in your washing machine's drain without proper care. *affresh® brand products are owned and distributed by Whirlpool Corporation.
