100% Guaranteed genuine parts logo
The French Door Refrigerator Water Inlet Valve allows water to enter the refrigerator’s water dispenser and ice maker. If one of the solenoids in the original unit is bad, it will prevent water from flowing into the ice maker and dispenser. If the icemaker of your appliance stops making ice, no water flows from the dispenser or it flows constantly, or if you notice water at the bottom of the fresh food compartment, the water inlet valve could be malfunctioning and need to be replaced. Installing this part will require basic hand tools, some disassembly of the refrigerator and novice repair experience. You must unplug the refrigerator or shut off the house circuit breaker for the appliance before installing this part. Also turn off the refrigerator’s water supply before you begin. Helpful Tip: We do not recommend disassembling your appliance’s current water inlet valve to clean it due to the risk of failure after the repair.

DIY Guide to Replacing the Whirlpool WPW10498976 VALVE

Are you having trouble getting water to flow from your Whirlpool refrigerator? If so, it could be time to replace the Whirlpool WPW10498976 Valve. This guide provides easy-to-follow DIY instructions for replacing the valve.

Materials & Tools

Before you begin, make sure you have these materials and tools on hand:

● Utility knife

● Teflon tape or pipe sealant

● Adjustable wrench

Step 1: Turn Off the Water Supply

First, turn off the cold water supply valve that supplies water to the refrigerator.

Step 2: Disconnect the Old Valve

Using an adjustable wrench, disconnect the old valve from the water supply line.

Step 3: Prepare the New Valve

Take the new valve and wrap some Teflon tape or pipe sealant around the threads. This will help create a water-tight seal.

Step 4: Install the New Valve

Attach the new valve to the water supply line and tighten with an adjustable wrench. You may need to cut away the insulation on the water line using a utility knife in order to ensure a snug fit.

Step 5: Turn On the Water Supply

Once the valve is installed, turn on the water supply and check for leaks. If there are any, tighten the connection and check again.

That’s it! You’ve successfully replaced the Whirlpool WPW10498976 Valve.
