Step 1: Unplug the refrigerator from the power source.
Step 2: Remove the screws holding the back panel of the refrigerator in place, then lift and set aside the panel to expose the wiring.
Step 3: Disconnect the two wires connected to the lid switch that is located in the top left corner of the compartment.
Step 4: Take note of where each wire connects to the switch and which connector they are attached to.
Step 5: Remove any screws holding the switch in place and lift the switch out of the appliance.
Step 6: Insert the new Whirlpool W11256781 Lid Switch into the appliance.
Step 7: Fasten the switch into place with the screws previously removed.
Step 8: Connect the wires back onto the switch, in their original position, to the two connectors.
Step 9: Replace the back panel of the refrigerator and secure it in place with the screws.
Step 10: Plug the refrigerator back into the power source.
