DIY Guide to Replacing the LG 4987JJ1010G Refrigerator Door Gasket Assembly
1. Unplug the LG refrigerator and remove the door. To do this, open the refrigerator door and locate the bottom hinge pin. Using a screwdriver, loosen the hinge pin and move it out of the way. Lift the door slightly and slide it off the top hinge.
2. Remove the screws that secure the old gasket assembly to the refrigerator door. Depending on the model, these screws may be located in different places. A typical arrangement is two screws at the top and two at the bottom.
3. Pull the old gasket assembly away from the door. Note that the gasket may be attached using Velcro. If so, carefully peel off the fabric from the door and the gasket assembly.
4. Inspect the door to make sure that no old gasket material remains. Use a damp cloth to clean off any old gasket material. Allow to dry completely before proceeding.
5. Place the new gasket assembly onto the refrigerator door. Make sure that it fits snugly and is evenly spaced around the door.
6. Secure the gasket assembly to the door using the screws provided with the assembly.
7. Replace the door onto the refrigerator and reattach the hinge pin.
8. Plug in the refrigerator and test the door to make sure that it seals properly when closed.
