If your dishwasher has a solid copper fill line, you'll want to disconnect the water line before pulling the old valve out. If you have the flexible fill line, you can remove the old valve before disconnecting the water line. Be sure to clean out the threads and add new pipe dope to the brass fitting connected to the old valve before transferring it to the new valve.
